The novel for this only starts getting interesting around chapter 1000, the anime should be around chapter 400 now. The author just kept introducing 'higher worlds' for the MC to travel to. I guess it was only to needlesly lengthen the story. These novels standard length is 2k chapters after all. I wouldn't recommend it. If the author removed all the fluff, and only kept the good parts it would have had some potential. If I had to say the story was slightly below average until chapter 900. Then, it fluctuated between, slightly above average to good. If the anime actually skips some of the fluff then it would be better than the novel.

Personally I didnt like the last part of the novel when "the age of no cultivation" started and the "elites" went off to the immortal realms. I also hated the ending, poor Yun Xi but that is my personal opinion
I also dont like the concept of higher realm being used and the idea of it takes hundreds of thousands of years to achieve another realm in cultivation, and time passes like it was nothing, using timeskip, it is like other people's lives doesnt matter, some idiot (who only read the novel and never watched the donghua) tried to argue with me saying "nothing happened during this time. why would Chen Dong write anything", I didnt bother replying since the first 20 years of Shi Hao's life, a lot of things happened, you can imagine what would happen in thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years, not just Shi Hao's life, but other people as well. But whatever, that person keeps spamming people, telling them the novel is one of the best novel, and I agree with you, it is slightly above average, not the best novel.
It started slowly but once he found his parents, it was started to be so so a brother?? and worse Shi Yi was young and didnt had anything to do with the supreme bone being transplanted, sure he was arrogant because he had dual pupils, but his real blood brother Qin Hao, who was sort of worse than him, siding on those very people who imprisoned his parents? sigh
You are right, it does contain a lot of fluff, I struggled a bit when his love interests were treated like that lol and yes it fluctuated between average and good as it moved towards the ending. It became darker and more serious, which felt like some other person took over and was writing for Chen Dong

It's also tied up with Jing Yong's estate (since he is no longer with us) and if I am not wrong, a lot of the titles are also tied up by the live action drama studios, plus I believe the collaboration with a Japanese studio in making the Condor series also tied up the rights to it and it wasnt popular in China.

Jing Yong works probably also cost more for the licencing agreement, and donghua doesnt earn as much revenue as live action, they usually tie in the donghua and live action together to make spread the cost of the licencing
Yeah I know of Dragon Tiger Gate, it was a popular manhua, I am waiting for a donghua of 风云雄霸天下 :)

笑傲江湖 will be interesting to see, since it involves castration of a few of the characters, and two of them are involved in a relationship with the same gender, not because of censorship but donghuas are usually aimed at younger audiences, and 笑傲江湖 is more for mature audiences lol
